Remembering A C Jones High School Memorial Page for:

Lee Roy Fuson, Jr. - Class of 1964

Created by: Angie Adams
Memorial Message:
Lee Roy moved to Beeville from Three Rivers in 1961 or '62. He attended A.C. Jones but I'm not sure he graduated. If so, it would have been in 1964. He enlisted in the Army with his best friend, who is my brother, Douglas Adams, in 1965. He was going to be sent to Viet Nam after paratrooper school in Ft. Benning Ga. so his parents got him out on a hardship discharge, as Lee Roy helped support his family. This was 1966. On Nov. 4, 1966 he took the parachute he got from Ft. Benning and attempted to para kite from the back of a pick-up truck. This was somewhere behind A.C. Jones. A foolish move, as the South wind was howling prior to a cold front and there were power lines all around. His Dad told him not to do this but he was determined. He was a very dark, handsome 21-year old James Dean type I had had a crush on since first seeing him years before. He was up in the air a good ways and a supporting cable broke, leaving him to fall. His neck was broken and then he was dragged with the parachute after he landed a long ways. Very, very tragic for all who knew and loved him. I was 12 at the time and will never forget when my Mom told me he was dead. I did not attend his funeral. My Mom would not let me, as I was in total denial he was gone. He was killed on a Friday and buried the next day, Sat. the 5th of Nov. at the Glenwood Cemetary in Beeville. I am looking for a picture of Lee Roy, also. I hope others will remember him, too.
