I guess the coolest hangout in my neck of the woods (E. Crockett St.) was Cain's drive-in. They had carhops and inside dining. Those kinds of places are classic car havens now but Cain's is no more in Beeville. Also if someone had a car or knew someone who did, the skating rink on one end of town and the bowling alley on the other were cool spots to see friends. Of course the Friday night football games, watching the Trojans play were the best. Chase Field was still at full speed and lots of action from the Navy families from all over the country. At that time I think the King Bee restaurant was the only place that stayed open all night. I remember a few bleary eyed stops there for coffee afte too much partying! Posted: 12/11/2010 |
